          Naming Convention Patterns

          Naming Convention Patterns

In the distraction-filled world of a digital marketer, clarity is important. Therefore, when using different marketing platforms, digital marketers often name an activity with all the information in the name. Proper naming allows them to differentiate between the different campaigns, and understand campaign goals and details at a glance without having to look elsewhere.

Digital marketers usually abide by a certain structure or naming convention for the campaign name. Creating a naming convention pattern deconstructs your dimension, which is in a naming convention form, and creates harmonized dimensions for each segment of your naming convention. A naming convention usually consists of the main details and contains a delimiter.

For example, in this naming convention each color represents an attribute and an underscore is used as the delimiter. The naming convention can be divided into four attributes: Car Name, Car Category, Promotion Name, and Site.

Here’s a video about naming convention patterns:

          • Create a Naming Convention Pattern
Create a naming convention pattern to deconstruct your dimension, which is in a naming convention form, and create harmonized dimensions for each segment of your naming convention. A harmonized dimension acts like any regular calculated dimension and can be used in the platform, for example in reports.
          • Manage and Monitor Harmonized Dimensions
After harmonized dimensions are created, they appear in a list so you can easily manage them. Add classifications and validations, see previews, find and replace in bulk, and more.
          • Multi-Delimiter Patterns and Structure Compliance
A multi-delimiter pattern contains different types of delimiters in a pattern, such as an underscore, colon, and comma. Structure compliance determines how and when extractions take place. With a single delimiter pattern, an extraction occurs only for dimension values that adhere to the pattern’s exact structure. For example, dimensions that have the same number of positions as the dimension that you’re currently creating this pattern for. When working with multi-delimiter patterns, the logic is different.
