          Create an Interactive Filter Widget

          Create an Interactive Filter Widget

The interactive filter widget manages the filter settings for other widgets in a dynamic, flexible manner. It displays all values contained in a given dimension, and it can be applied to specific widgets on the page.

          REQUIRED USER ROLE
To an interactive filter widget Admin and Power User

In the interactive filter’s search box, search for values to filter widgets by. If you need multiple values, enter the exact term and then add a comma between each value.

A page can have several interactive filters, allowing the user to select a combination of filter settings.

          1. Navigate to the Visualize tab.
          2. To enter edit mode, click the pencil icon.
          3. To add a widget, click the + icon.
          4. In the Interactive section, select Filter.
          5. To add data to your widget, click the + icon.
            Note
            Note
            • The interactive filter widget supports calculated dimensions. Setting up the calculated dimension with a related measurement isn’t necessary. You can select dimensions only.
            • When the chosen dimension has more than 300 values, the widget displays an error message. You can use a filter to narrow down the value number.

After you select a dimension these options are available:

          • Auto Set Value — Automatically lists the filter values displayed in the widget according to the dimension selected.
          • Manual Set Values — Allows you to define the filter values displayed in the widget. For example, to provide the option to filter by a few specific campaigns and not all campaigns in the workspace, define the specific campaigns here.
            1. To enable this option, click the arrow next to the Auto Set Values field, and select the Manual Set Values option.
            2. To edit the values, click the pencil icon. The Set Values Manually dialog appears.
            3. Insert the value you require, and then click Add Value.
            4. Select Equals or Contains in the Filtering Operator area. This selection affects the dimension values included in the widget.
            5. Save your work.
          • Set Default Values — Set default values for your filter widget so that each time the page loads these values appear. Select the values you require from the dropdown list.
            Note
Note If you have a long list of values, you can use the Search option to search for the values you require.
          • Apply to Specific Widgets — Select the widgets you want the filter to apply to instead of the default to all widgets on the page.
            Note
Note If you delete a widget that has an interactive filter widget applied to it, the interactive filter widget settings revert to the default settings: applying the filter to all the widgets on the page. Filtering issues can result after the page is saved and refreshed.
          • Cascading Filters — If you want to enable one filtering component (a page or an interactive filter widget) to apply to other interactive filter widgets, select this checkbox.
          • Retain User Selection — Select this checkbox to save the interactive filter widget settings that are applied per user to a dashboard page or collection. Now, when switching between collections or dashboard pages, the same settings appear.

More options are available in the Filter and Data tab.

          • Filtering Display — Select how to display the filter selections within the interactive filter widget. These suboptions are available:
            • List — Lists out all the filter values within the widget.
            • Drop Down — Places all the filter values in a dropdown list within the widget.
            • Search Box — Places a search box within the widget, where you can search for the filter to apply.

Depending on the filtering display selected above, these options are available:

          • Selection Method — Define whether users can select a single filter selection or multiple filter selections.
          • List Display — Select how to display the list within the widget: vertically or horizontally. This option only applies to the list filtering display.
          • Filtering Operator — Define how the search box searches for values. Equals requires an exact match to the value you’re searching for, while Contains searches for a value based on what’s entered. This option only applies to the search box filtering display.
          • Limit Selection — Select this checkbox to limit the number of selections a user can make within the interactive filter widget. This option is helpful when the creator of the dashboard page wants to prevent too many filters being used simultaneously. This option is only available when Multiple is selected in the Selection Method box. Insert the number you want to limit the selections to.
          • Show Search Box — Select this checkbox to display a search box and the list of values in the widget.
          • Value(s) must be selected — Select this checkbox to make sure that there is at least one selected value in the interactive filter widget.

After creating an interactive filter widget, you can search for values to filter widgets within the widget’s search box. If you need multiple values, enter the exact term and then add a comma between each value.
