Create A/B Test Content
Create A/B test content in Content Builder. Use this block to create two different content areas and track which content performs better during an A/B Test. A/B Test works with Content Builder emails for testing content areas only. You can’t use the A/B Test block to test emails, From Name, Subject Line, Preheaders, and Time with Content Builder emails.

- To select content for content A, click Browse.
- To select content for content B, click Browse.
- Click Save.

Fill in the following fields:
Field Steps to Follow Name Enter an internal name. The name is what you and other users see in your folders. Subscribers can’t see this name. External Key Enter a unique identifier that can developers can use in API calls to access objects programmatically. Location This field shows the folder name. Click Change to choose a different folder. Tags To associate the message with a tag, follow the steps:
- Click Add.
- Enter the name of a tag.
- Click Done.
Business Units The shared content is initially shared to the All Content folder for the selected business units. Any user with update permissions in a recipient business unit can edit that content. Those changes apply to that content for all business units. Learn more about Sharing Content.
To share this content, follow these steps:
- Click Change.
- You can share content as described:
- All Business Units: This option shares content across the entire enterprise and to all future business units, including business units your account can’t access due to login restrictions.
- Custom: This options shares content to any business units you can access. You can share to any number of business units. To select all children and grandchild, click Select Children. Clicking select children doesn’t insure future children business units are included.
- Click Save.
Channel Permissions Use channel permissions to indicate which channels (such as Mobile, Email, or Social) can use this content. Note The Tracking > Email Overlay View for emails that use A/B Test content blocks show only one of the content blocks, regardless of whether you select the job details for block A or block B. The tracking results are unique to the job but the email preview doesn’t show A & B respectively, but only displays a single default block for each job. A/B testing of separate emails that don’t use A/B Test content block show the unique email for the job whose tracking you select to view.
