Create an SMS/MMS Message in Content Builder

Create an SMS or MMS message in Marketing Cloud Engagement Content Builder. You can also use the Content Builder editor in Journey Builder to create and send an SMS or MMS message. MMS is only available in the United States and Canada.

Note Journey Builder SMS messages are no longer created in MobileConnect. Instead, create your message in Content Builder, or create your SMS/MMS messages without leaving Journey Builder.

1. In Content Builder, click Create, mouse over Mobile App, and select SMS/MMS.
2. To upload or select multimedia, turn on Add Media.
3. Enter a message.
   

   Tip

   The message editor contains several options that can improve your message delivery rates.

   • To find non-GSM characters, which can cause your messages to be split into multiple parts, select Highlight Non-GSM.
   • To combine messages that contain more than 160 characters, check Concatenate Message. Message concatenation isn’t available in all markets, including the United States. This option is only available when you select a short or long code for a location that allows concatenation. For more information about concatenating messages, see Message Concatenation.
   • To shorten a URL, click Shorten URL, paste your URL, and click Apply.
4. Configure Preview by Code Type - preview the different locales for codes you have in your account, if applicable.
   For MMS messages, you can only use US or Canada codes that have MMS capability enabled.
   

   Note

   • The Content Builder preview can render the message differently than the Journey Builder preview. The Journey Builder preview uses the code you select there, while Content Builder previews the message as you build it.
5. Click Save.
   This SMS message can now be pulled into a Journey Builder SMS activity. See Create the SMS/MMS Activity in Journey Builder.

   

   Important Referencing Content Builder blocks like text or HTML returns table and HTML wrappers instead of text. To reference this content, use code snippets instead. See ContentBlockbyID.
