Google Analytics Integration FAQs
Review answers to frequently asked questions about the Google Analytics Integration for Marketing Cloud Engagement.
- What Level of Journey Data Is Displayed in the Journey Analytics Dashboard?
Data for all versions of the journey is aggregated by day and displayed in the dashboard. - Why Aren’t All My Google Analytics Audiences Listed on the Setup Page?
To appear on the Setup page, an audience must be synced. Select all audiences for a property so that the integration can sync all of them. - Why Doesn’t the Subscriber Count in the Audience Data Extension Match the Count in Google Analytics?
For audience members to appear in your data extension, they must have ansfmc_idattribute. To ensure that this attribute is passed from Marketing Cloud Engagement to Google Analytics, configure thesfmc_idparameter with a value of%%subscriberid%%. - Why Don’t My Subscribers Appear in My Google Analytics Audience?
Marketing Cloud Engagement uses an ID to link subscribers to Google Analytics audience members. To ensure that this link is created, configure thesfmc_idparameter with a value of%%subscriberid%%. - What Limits Apply to My Use of Google Analytics?
Google enforces several limits on Google Analytics. A free Google Analytics account can contain up to 100 audiences, while a paid account can contain up to 400. Free accounts can retain audience data for up to 14 months, while a paid account can retain data for up to 50 months. - Why Can’t I See All the Accounts, Properties, and Views in the Google Analytics View Dropdown Menu in the Journey Analytics Dashboard?
Only the accounts, properties, and views for which you’re granted admin access appear in the Journey Analytics dashboard. To edit user permissions, follow the instructions to configure Google Analytics integration user permission. - I Purchased the Google Analytics Integration. Why Can’t I See It?
Confirm that you have Marketing Cloud Engagement and Google Analytics administrator roles. - Is Google Analytics Data Stored in Marketing Cloud Engagement Data Extensions?
Yes. When you connect Google Analytics 4 properties, Marketing Cloud Engagement creates a data extension for each audience in the properties. Use that audience data extension to add contacts to a journey. - Journey Analytics Dashboard No Longer Shows Google Analytics Data
A Google Analytics account administrator can revoke the permission to share data with Marketing Cloud Engagement. When permission is revoked, the data no longer appears in the Engagement dashboard. Contact your Google Analytics account administrator to verify that the property is configured to share data with Engagement. - Why Can't I See My Google Analytics Information?
Administrator permissions are required to view the accounts, properties, and views associated with your Google account. If this information isn’t appearing in the selector, check your permissions. - Does This Integration Comply with the Salesforce Privacy Policy?
Yes. When the Track Clicks feature is disabled for an email address, Marketing Cloud Engagement doesn’t append the Google Analytics UTM parameters to links in the email. - Can I Determine Which Domains and Subdomains Are Tracked for Links Sent from My Journey?
Yes, you can allow one or more domains and subdomains using the allowlist in Journey Builder settings. - Can I Define My Own Campaign Name Parameter for Links in an Email?
Yes. To enter a custom campaign name for each email activity in the Journey Builder email send flow, select the Set Per Message option in the Google integrations tracking parameters. - What Happens If I Leave the Allowlist Domains Empty?
If no domains or subdomains are specified in the allowlist, the Google UTM tracking parameters are appended to all links. - Can I Use the Journey Analytics Dashboard Without the Google Analytics Integration?
Yes. All Marketing Cloud Engagement users have access to email metrics in the Journey Analytics dashboard. - What Is the Earliest Selectable Date for the Date Filter on the Journey Analytics Dashboard?
The earliest selectable date is the date that version 1 of the journey was created. For example, if version 1 of the journey was created more than 3 years before today's date, the earliest selectable date is 3 years before today. - How Far Back Can I Query My Google Analytics Data from the Journey Analytics Dashboard?
The Google Analytics integration provides data from the past 3 years. For example, if you create the first version of the journey three years and one month before today’s date, the oldest data available is four years before today’s date. - What Is the Largest Selectable Date Range in the Date Filter?
The system defaults to the maximum of 30 days. If the journey started less than 30 days ago, the date range automatically adjusts to a custom range to include the start date through today. - Can I Use Overlapping Date Ranges Using the Metric Compare Feature in the Date Filter?
No. Overlapping date ranges causes the system to count your data more than once and provides an inaccurate comparison of the data sets. - How Are Deltas Calculated for the Metrics Compare Feature in the Journey Analytics Dashboard?
To calculate the comparison metric value, the system subtracts the comparison date range metric value from the date range metric value. - Can I Match Contacts Between Google Analytics and Marketing Cloud Engagement?
Yes. To identify a customer in an audience by matching the Client ID stored on the client machine in the GA cookie and the SFMC ID, the user’s machine must initiate a session. You need both IDs to simulate a session and send a hit through the Google Analytics measurement protocol. To encourage engagement, you can send the customer a welcome email with a call-to-action link or button when they complete their online registration. - Can I Add the SubscriberID Parameter to a Link in Journey Builder?
Yes. You can manually append thesfmc_id=%%subscriberid%%parameter to a link, just like other UTM parameters. When you do, the subscriber is added to an audience, published to Marketing Cloud Engagement, and added back into a journey using the data extension for the audience. - Can I Remove Duplicate IDs?
Yes. In Google Analytics, you can expose the subscriber ID from Marketing Cloud Engagement as a custom dimension. If multiple Google Client IDs have the same subscriber ID, the integration deduplicates the Google ID before it’s sent to Marketing Cloud Engagement.
