Create or Update an Account
Although the deprecated Account activity can appear in old journeys, it’s no longer an option for new journey activities. Instead, use the Object, Campaign, or Convert Lead activity when creating journeys. The Account activity creates an account for each Marketing Cloud Engagement contact or updates an existing account using its account ID or a Marketing Cloud Engagement attribute corresponding to that field.
- Drag the account activity from the canvas activities pane onto the canvas.
- Hover over the account activity icon on the canvas.
- To rename the activity, click Account.

Click Configure.
Use Create or Update to choose to create a Sales or Service Cloud account if no existing account can be identified using Marketing Cloud Engagement attributes. When a Sales or Service Cloud account is identified using the Marketing Cloud Engagement attribute that you designate, the account record is updated.
Use Create Only to create a Sales or Service Cloud account record for each Marketing Cloud Engagement contact that reaches the activity.

In the Account Management section, follow these instructions.
- To find the Marketing Cloud attribute that’s used to identify the desired Sales and Service Cloud account to update, type a value in the Search field.
- Alternately, scroll through the attribute groups shown. Click the attribute group that contains the desired value, then scroll down to locate the value.
- Drag the Marketing Cloud attribute whose value matches a value on your existing Sales and Service Cloud account record field and can be used to identify the correct record.
- Only one Marketing Cloud attribute can be mapped to a Sales and Service Cloud account record field.
- To select the type of account record field desired, use the dropdown menu next to the Sales and Service Cloud search field.
- Scroll down to designate what happens if more than one account match is found.
- Select Assignment Rules if the active assignment rule must be observed.
- Click Next.
- To locate a specific attribute, click an attribute group in the Marketing Cloud column. Hover over the name of the data extension to view its path.
- Drag a Marketing Cloud Engagement attribute to the Sales or Service Cloud account value it populates.
- To select the type of account record field desired, use the dropdown menu next to the Sales and Service Cloud search field.
- Use Hide Defined Fields to show only fields that haven’t been matched to a Marketing Cloud Engagement attribute.
- Use the Set Fixed Values option when the same value must be added to each Sales or Service Cloud account record when an account is created by this activity. To display mapped fields, click Map Fields.
- Click Next.
- Use the Set Update Options screen to choose how to update the fields mapped on the previous step. The update options available are Always Overwrite, Overwrite (Existing Value Present), and Overwrite (Existing Value Not Present). Make a selection for each mapped field.
- Click Next.
- To amend the selections made on Steps 1–3, click Back.
- Click Done.
