          Create a Push Notification Activity in Journey Builder

          Use the push notification activity to power Journey Builder push notification sends to Marketing Cloud Engagement contacts in a journey.

          Important
          Important If Custom Key functionality is enabled for the MobilePush, navigate to the Advanced Options section to input Custom Key values.
          1. In Journey Builder, drag the Push Notification activity to the canvas.
          2. Click the Push Notification activity, and add a name and description.
            Note
            Note If applicable, name your activity. Otherwise, your content name serves as your activity name and is visible in all reports.
          3. Click New Message.
          4. Add a title and subtitle to your message, if applicable. Use the personalization and emoji dropdowns as needed.
          5. Choose whether to show or hide the title and subtitle in the message preview.
          6. Enter the message.
            Note
            Note If you insert personalization strings or AMPscript, the number of bytes used isn’t available.
          7. To personalize the content of your message, click inside the Message field, and select contact attributes from the personalization dropdown menu.
          8. Optionally, add media to your message.
            • Insert a URL or AMPscript, or select media from the Content Builder library.
              Note
              Note If you use AMPscript in this field, verify in Subscriber Preview that it renders a URL.
            • Choose whether to show or hide the media.
            • Enter alternate text.
            • Select whether to use different media for Android, if applicable.
          9. Select an open behavior.
            1. Open the App: Opens the app when the user taps the message.
            2. Go to App URL: Insert a URL in the field that goes to a specific page in your app.
            3. Go to Web URL: Insert a URL in the field that goes to a web page.
            4. Go to CloudPage: Takes the user to a CloudPage.
          10. Preview your message. Use the device and view dropdowns to see how your message renders.
          11. Click Save.
          12. Next to Message Configuration, click Edit.
          13. Select the app you want to use.
          14. Click Delivery Options.
            1. If you enabled Custom Sound for your app, select which sound to play when a push message arrives.
            2. Select whether to update the number of unread messages displayed on the iOS icon for this app when you send the message.
            3. To associate this message with a campaign, click Add Campaign Association and select the campaign.
            4. To add buttons to your notification, select the Interactive buttons category. On Android, if you've already created buttons in Content Builder and Journey Builder, they automatically appear in your notification.
            5. To send push messages that include Carousel content, configure your Advanced Template Category field in the app settings. Otherwise, you can't send this message to iOS devices.
            6. Click Send Copy to Inbox to send the same push notification to the user's inbox as a message. This feature is compatible with SDK version 9.0 or newer.

              By default, an End Date for Send Copy to Inbox message is automatically set for 1 months. You can set the End Date to a maximum of 1 year.

              Note

              Carousel notifications don't support Send Copy to Inbox. For Standard notifications, the following fields are available for Push Copy to Inbox: Title, Subtitle, Message, Open Behavior (Cloudpage, App/Web URL), Media, custom key-value pairs.

          15. Click Summary.
          16. For a subscriber-level preview for your message, click Subscriber Preview.
          17. To verify content and personalization before the actual send, click Send Test.
          18. Click Done.
