MobilePush Install, Inactive Devices, Push Delivery Events

In MobilePush for Marketing Cloud Engagement, you can use the Event Notification Service (ENS) to receive notifications for your own system when install, inactive devices, and delivered events occur.

          1. In the app switcher, hover over your name and click Setup.
          2. Search for MobilePush.
          3. Click the Administration tab.
          4. Select the app you want to edit.
          5. Select Settings in dropdown.
          6. Under Optional Settings, enable or disable these events.
          7. Click Save.

          Install

Get real-time notifications when a user installs your app and opens it for the first time. This event enables you to immediately engage with new users by sending a welcome message, offering onboarding tips, or providing a promotional incentive.

          Inactive Devices

Easily track when users stop engaging with your app and take action to re-engage them through personalized campaigns. Inactivity refers to the device's lack of certain key activities, including:

          • App Usage: Not opening the app.
          • Delivery Receipt: Not receiving notifications and not sending back delivery receipts.
          • Sync Calls: Not making sync calls, which are tracked separately.

If any of these activities are absent for a device, it's considered inactive, and the device will be opted out and an inactive event is generated.

A device can also bounce and generate an inactive event in these ways:

          • Send Failure: If a push notification fails as per the feedback from APNS or FCM, the device is given three attempts. After three consecutive failures, the device is opted out and an inactive event is generated.
          • Token Rejection: If the device's token is rejected by APNS or FCM, it's immediately considered uninstalled and opted out, triggering an inactive event.

For system-forced opt-out scenarios, devices will again be marked as opted in if the user updates the app or SDK triggers re-registration, and the inactivity period will be reset.

          Note
          Note

You can define a specific inactivity period from 30 days to 1825 days to automatically identify and label devices as inactive. Additionally, you can connect with these users via alternative channels such as email, SMS, or in-app messaging to bring them back to your app.

          Push Delivery

Monitor the delivery status of your push notifications to make sure they're delivered to your users. If a push notification doesn't come through because your device isn't using it or the network isn't working, you can automatically switch to other ways to get the message, like SMS or email, so the message gets through.

For the Push Delivery event, make sure you integrate iOS and Android SDK 9.0 (or later). The Install and Inactive Devices events are compatible with all SDK versions.
