Contact Time Zones
In MobilePush, you can include a setting in your messages to override the time zone used in your account and honor the time zone specified by the contact instead. Find this setting under Advanced Options when you create a message.
If you enable this setting, the message begins the send process at the scheduled time based on the contact time zone. For example, if you create and start a send at 10:30 UTC-6, and you honor the time zone value of the contact, a contact with a UTC-8 time zone receives the message at around 10:30 UTC-8. The actual receipt time varies slightly depending on list refreshes, network availability, and other factors.
MobilePush sends a message immediately to any time zones that have already occurred since you created the message. In this example, you created the message and told it to start sending at 10:30 UTC-6. Any contacts with a time zone that has already passed, such as UTC-4, are sent to immediately.
If you create a message to send in the future, MobilePush starts sending the message to users at the appropriate time in their time zones, and no immediate sends occur. For example, if you schedule a message to be sent next October 16 at 9:30 UTC-6 and select to honor the contact’s time zone, the message is sent to time zones earlier than UTC-6, such as UTC+4.
Each contact and mobile device record includes a time zone setting. The mobile device operating system controls this time zone setting and automatically sends a value to Marketing Cloud Engagement. For example, iOS devices that use a Set Automatically switch in the Date & Time settings use the device location to set the time zone.
When a mobile device updates to a different time zone and the app comes to the foreground of the mobile device, a registration update sends the new value to the contact record. If the app never comes to the foreground of the mobile device, the app never sends a registration update to the contact record, and the time zone value remains unchanged.
