Contact Time Zones and Send Throttling
If you select to throttle sends and to use the time zone of the contact, Marketing Cloud MobilePush prioritizes the Use time zone specified by Contact setting. First, the system determines how many devices it must send to in each time zone. The system then throttles each time zone group individually.
Because MobilePush begins the send for each time zone at the correct time, MobilePush may attempt to send more messages than your send throttling setting allows. For example, Northern Trail Outfitters sends a message to a total audience of 100,000 devices divided evenly across 10 time zones with 10,000 devices each. Their marketer selects both settings and decides to throttle messages at 1000 per hour. Each time zone receives 1000 messages per hour. This table outlines how MobilePush processes the send. Note that hour two includes 2000 total messages sent, and Northern Trail Outfitters sends a total of 10,000 messages per hour by hour 10 of the send.
