          Push Notifications

          Push Notifications

In Marketing Cloud Engagement, you can create a message using one of the templates in MobilePush or the Push Notification template in Content Builder or Journey Builder.

          Send a Push Notification

          Note
Note The maximum payload size for iOS is 2048 bytes, and the maximum for Android is 4096 bytes.

Scheduled push messages begin the send process on the date, time, and time zone set for that message. This time indicates when the process begins, not when all messages send. For example, if you insert a list refresh in your send, the list refresh begins at the scheduled time. Any message sends begin after the refresh completes. MobilePush defaults to your account's time zone, but you can specify a time zone for each send.

If you want to... Use this template
Send a push message to mobile devices based on demographic attributes Outbound Message
Send a push message to mobile devices that enter a specific geographic location Location Entry Message
Send a push message to mobile devices that leave a specific geographic location Location Exit Message
Trigger a push message on mobile devices based on proximity to a physical beacon location Beacon Message
Send a push message that persists Inbox
          • Create and Send a Push Notification
Use the Outbound Message template in MobilePush to send a push message to mobile devices based on demographic attributes.
          • Get Started with Rich Notifications
In MobilePush, you can send a push notification that contains rich media, such as an image or video, to your subscribers. When subscribers interact with the media in the push notification, the image or video expands. After interacting with the expanded version, they go to your app.
          • Manage Push Notifications
After you create a push notification in MobilePush, you can edit, inactivate, copy and reuse, or delete the notification. Edit the message before it sends. Inactivate the message to keep it from functioning. While you can’t reactivate the message, you can copy it and reuse the message. Delete the message when it’s no longer needed.
          • Contact Time Zones
In MobilePush, you can include a setting in your messages to override the time zone used in your account and honor the time zone specified by the contact instead. Find this setting under Advanced Options when you create a message.
          • Send Throttling
Throttling limits the maximum number of outbound messages MobilePush queues to send in a specified time period. Throttling limits a specified time period. Consider throttling if you are concerned that your internal resources won’t be able to handle the traffic caused by all the users engaging with your app.
          • Contact Time Zones and Send Throttling
If you select to throttle sends and to use the time zone of the contact, Marketing Cloud MobilePush prioritizes the Use time zone specified by Contact setting. First, the system determines how many devices it must send to in each time zone. The system then throttles each time zone group individually.
          • Quiet Notifications in MobilePush
Quiet, also known as provisional, notifications for iOS 12 and later versions are enabled but not shown to the user as an alert. Instead, notifications go to the notification center without an alert, badge, or sound, and the user must swipe to see their notifications for an app. Users do not opt out, but notifications are delivered to the notification center to be viewed later. Users can determine their level of engagement for a specific app.
