What Are Cookies?
Cookies temporarily store a small amount of information in a user’s browser. For example, logging in to a website, preferences for particular content, capping how often a user sees ads, or tracking what a user does online. Cookies are set at the user level, allowing every user to customize their own cookie settings.
Cookie preferences in Marketing Cloud Intelligence Data Pipelines are updated yearly. For security reasons, cookies are sent only in requests to the domains that are associated with the cookie.
First-party cookies are stored by the domain (website) that you are directly visiting. First-party cookies let website owners collect analytics data, remember language settings, and perform other useful functions that help provide a good user experience.
Third-party cookies are created by domains other than the one that you are directly visiting. Third-party cookies are used for cross-site tracking, retargeting, and ad serving.
MDP splits its cookies into three categories:
- Required—Necessary for basic website functionality. For example, session cookies needed to transmit the website, authentication cookies, and security cookies. These cookies are always active and can’t be disabled.
- Functional—Required to open support tickets and access the Success Center, Knowledge Base, and Screen Guides. These cookies are optional and can be disabled.
- Usage—Help improve MDP by sending anonymous data regarding platform usage. These cookies are optional and can be disabled.
