Working with CMS Workspaces in Business Units
When you create, organize, and share content in a marketing CMS workspace, keep these business unit considerations in mind.

- You can relate marketing workspaces to a business unit only in Setup.
- To make most personalization features available in a workspace, relate it to a business unit. Specifically, this action makes dynamic content and merge fields based on a data graph or the unified individual available to emails. And it makes all merge fields available to landing pages.
- You can share content from a source workspace only to target workspaces in the same business unit. If the source workspace isn't related to a business unit, you can share its content to any target workspace.
- You can copy content from your workspace and post it to common assets. Members of any business unit can then copy the content to their workspace. See Distribute Content with Common Assets.
For more information, see Organize and Share Content in a Marketing Workspace.
Create a Marketing Workspace in a Business Unit
Create a marketing workspace for your business unit in Setup. If you create a marketing workspace in the Marketing app or Digital Experiences app, you must then relate it to a business unit. You can't delete a workspace after it's assigned to a business unit.
- From Setup, in the Quick Find box, enter Business Units and select it.
- From the Business Units list page, select a business unit.
- Click Marketing CMS Workspaces, and then click New.
- Add a workspace name, API name, and description. You can't change the API name later.
- Select a default language, and then click Finish.
- To edit other workspace settings, select the workspace from the list to open it in Marketing Cloud Next.
Add a Marketing Workspace to a Business Unit
A marketing workspace can be mapped only to one business unit, and you can't change this relationship later. To allow workspace sharing, add the workspaces to the same business unit.
- From Setup, in the Quick Find box, enter Business Units and select it.
- From the Business Units list page, select a business unit.
- Click Marketing CMS Workspaces to expand the list of workspaces, and then click Add.
- Select one or more workspaces, and then click Next.
- Review and confirm the details of your change, and then click Done.
- Click Done again.
