          Tracking Email Opens

          Tracking Email Opens

Email open tracking is handled by an invisible, single-pixel image that Account Engagement inserts into HTML emails. When a recipient opens the email, the image loads, and it’s counted as an HTML open. Open rates are difficult to measure accurately because some email clients turn off image loading.

Open rates aren’t always an accurate reflection of how prospects interact with your emails for various reasons.

          • Account Engagement can’t insert the tracking pixel into text emails, so email opens aren’t recorded unless a prospect clicks a tracked link in the text email. If a prospect clicks a tracked link, Account Engagement records the click and an HTML email open.
          • Some spam checkers and virus scanners trigger multiple email opens when they scan an inbox.
          • If an email client downloads images, and the recipient uses a preview pane, an email viewed in the preview is counted as opened.
          • If a recipient clicks a link within the email, Account Engagement counts the email as opened whether the tracking pixel loaded.

A better way to measure the success of your message is by tracking clicks and unique clicks, which are also displayed in your email report. Clicks serve as a more accurate indication of the effectiveness of your call to action.
