          List Hygiene and Spam Filters

List hygiene is key to getting past spam filters. If you send emails to unengaged or invalid prospects who ignore your emails, filters assume you're sending spam.

There are a few easy things you can do to keep your email lists clean and up-to-date.

          • Have a sunset policy for unengaged prospects. After sending several emails to a prospect with no engagement, remove them from your mailing lists.
          • Perform a permission pass to refresh old lists. Permission passes help identify engaged prospects and keep your lists 100% opted-in.
          • Don't send to stale lists. Prospects on these lists don't remember who you are, so they're more likely to mark your message as spam. You could also end up sending to a spam trap, a bait email address that ISPs use to catch and blocklist spammers.
