Guidelines for Transferring a WhatsApp Number
To comply with Meta’s requirements and ensure a smooth migration of your WhatsApp number, follow these guidelines.
General Guidelines
- To transfer your number, make sure that your account meets the customer requirements for migrating phone numbers between WhatsApp Business accounts (Meta). You can view the settings for your WhatsApp Business account (WABA) in Meta Business Manager or ask your business service provider.
- To set up a new WABA, you must have an admin account with one of these marketing permission sets: Admin, Marketing Cloud Admin, MC Security Admin, or MC Channel Manager.
Guidelines for Migrating Numbers from Marketing Cloud Engagement, Service Cloud, or a Service Provider
- When you create a messaging channel in Unified Messaging, use a new WABA.
- To transfer a WhatsApp number from Marketing Cloud Engagement or an external service provider, create a WABA for the number. Don’t delete the number in your existing WABA. If you delete a number, your existing message templates aren’t migrated.
- Before you transfer a WhatsApp number from an external service provider, make sure that your account meets Meta’s requirements for a transfer. For more information, see WhatsApp Business Platform: Migrate numbers among partners via Embedded Signup.
- If you transfer a WhatsApp number from Service Cloud, you can use your existing WABA. Only WABAs that have a history of consistently using the same phone number are eligible for migration. Before beginning a transfer, we check to make sure that the WABA meets this requirement.
- When you transfer a WABA from Marketing Cloud Engagement, it must have a status of
Approved and a valid payment method attached in Meta Business Manager. When you transfer a
WABA, complete these steps:
- Turn off two-step verification for the phone number.
- Use the same Meta Business Manager account that you used to set up the number.
- Use the same Meta Business Manager account that was used to set up the number. You can use the same Business Profile Display Name for the number that you’re migrating, but specify a different WABA name so that you can tell the accounts apart. The display name is visible to customers, but the WABA name isn’t. You can change the display name for a phone number after the migration is complete.
- Use a unique WABA for each Marketing Cloud Engagement business unit. Don’t share or combine WABAs.
