You are here:
Export a Backup to an Amazon S3 Bucket
You can export backup data to an external Amazon S3 bucket. You can export a full backup or a backup of selected objects.
Before users can upload data to Amazon, an S3 Bucket and IAM Access Key must be created in one of the AWS Regions to store the data. You also need to create an Amazon endpoint in Backup and Recover.
FedRAMP customers must create the bucket in the GovCloud (US) region.
For information on how to create an S3 Bucket see Creating a general purpose bucket Amazon support article.
For information on how to generate an IAM Access Key with write access see Identity and Access Management for Amazon S3 Amazon support article.
For information on how to create an Amazon endpoint in Backup and Recover see Create and Manage Endpoints for Backup Export
Own is not responsible for data exported to an external storage and can't be held responsible for the security, privacy, or protection of data in any external storage. Users are responsible for their security and privacy outside of the Own Data Platform.
- Navigate to the service to be exported.
- Click Export. The Export Backup window appears.
- On the "Export to" drop-down list, select Amazon S3 or S3 GovCloud (US).
- Select the endpoint.
-
Select whether to export All or Specific objects.
- If Specific objects is selected, select which objects to export.
- Click Export.
- A warning message is displayed if the S3 Bucket is not secure. If this occurs, review the bucket configuration to better protect the data being exported. To proceed with the export, click "Yes, export".
- The export process starts and the Jobs tab is displayed.
- Once the export job is complete, check the S3 Bucket for the exported data.
The export process creates a folder with the backup name under the provided path. The .gzip file created for each object is a zipped .csv file. The export uploads the files to this folder. If a file was previously uploaded, containing the same backup and object data, that file is overwritten. To keep all historic versions of the object, enable versioning on the S3 Bucket.
