Backup Types in Backup & Recover for Salesforce
After you add a backup service, full backups and incremental updates run automatically for continuous data integrity. You can also run backups on demand.
Automatic Backups
Automatic backups run daily for all data and metadata services, and include attachments, content documents, and Knowledge articles. Once a week, a full backup copies the entire set of data. Until the next full backup date, daily synthetic full backups capture changes.
To schedule the backup service or rename it, go to Options, then General.
We recommend setting a start time during off-peak hours (for example, on Sunday at 2:00 AM) to minimize the impact on system performance.
Make sure to configure your time zone correctly on the Edit Profile tab.
Full Backup
A full backup copies the entire set of data. A full backup takes longer than the synthetic full backup and is done periodically to maintain a high level of data integrity.
Synthetic Full Backup
A synthetic full backup captures changes and merges them with a previous full or synthetic full backup to create an updated complete backup. Synthetic full backups take less time than full backups and reduce API consumption.
Manual Backup
Run a synthetic full backup on demand.
Select a type of manual backup:
-
Backup Now: Runs a manual backup on command.
-
Backup now with label: Adds the option to name the manual backup.
-
Backup now specific objects: Backs up specific objects without preserving their hierarchy.
A manual backup should not be used as a restore point.
