Create Your First Salesforce Data Backup
Back up and restore your Salesforce data to avoid losing it because of corruption or deletion. Your first backup helps ensure business continuity and data integrity.
Now that you've set up your account, create your first backup: Back Up Your Data with Backup & Recover for Salesforce. You will now be ready to explore additional features that help configure, optimize and manage your data protection efforts.
Configuring your backup service(s) - essential features to address:
- On the main page of your Backup & Recover dashboard, click one of your backup service tiles.
- From the Backup page, click Options in the left-hand panel.
- Start from the top and change the service name to something more user friendly (i.e. Production Data).
- We recommend having a dedicated user as the authenticated user, see Salesforce Authenticated User Permission Requirements for Backup & Recover. To change your authenticated user, re-authenticate your service at this time.
- Configure when your backups will run daily with the Start Backups at fields.
- Next, you will have the ability to manage your Backup Retention Policies in Backup & Recover for Salesforce. Depending on your pricing plan, retention policies can be set to meet any internal requirements set by your organization for keeping data backed up.
- Review Backing Up Special Objects in Backup & Recover for Salesforceexcluded by default and their behaviours when included.
- Lastly, you can pause, archive, or delete your services when needed. Please note that in a production environment, you will not be able to delete your service and you will need to submit a support case.
- We have separated the backup process for data and files to reduce backup times and improve recovery time objectives. This change allows the data backups to finish more quickly, while file backups will continue until completion.
- As a result, each backup tile will now display two statuses, enabling you to easily track the progress and status of both data and file backups, including any warnings. By default, the primary status on each tile represents the data backup status.
- For troubleshooting guidance, refer to the common errors and warnings article. Once a data backup is complete, you can initiate a Restore job, even if the file backup is still in progress.
