Control Which Users Experience Cloud Site Users Can See
With user sharing, you decide whether all users in an Experience Cloud site are visible to each other.
When setting up sharing for external users, you have three settings to consider. These settings take effect only when the org-wide default external access for the User object is set to Private. If the org-wide external default for the User object is set to Public Read Only, all users can see one another, regardless of site-specific user visibility settings enabled.
Portal User Visibility: If enabled, portal users in the same customer or partner portal account can see each other, regardless of the organization-wide defaults. Partner users with a Partner Community license or equivalent can also see the Salesforce user who owns their partner portal account.
Site User Visibility: This setting controls whether user sharing is available for authenticated users in your org’s sites. If enabled, you have the option of selecting See other members of this site, which turns visibility on or off, on a site-by-site basis.
Guest User Visibility: The Let guest users see other members of this site setting controls whether user sharing is available for unauthenticated (guest) users in your Experience Cloud sites. You grant guest user visibility on a site-by-site basis by selecting Let guest users see other members of this site, which turns visibility on or off.
Let’s see how Portal User Visibility and Site User Visibility work together in authenticated use cases.
Similarly, in searches and API calls, site users have access to other site users, even if they’re not members of the same site. Users can see the names of other site users. However, when they hover over their names, they can’t see any details about the user if they’re not members of the same site. Accessing a user’s detail page is also restricted to users who are members of the same site.
| Site User Visibility | Portal User Visibility | Result | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Scenario 1 | Disabled | Disabled | Experience Cloud site users are visible only to themselves. |
| Scenario 2 | Disabled | Enabled | Experience Cloud site users can see other Experience Cloud site users in the same account and the same site they’re a member of. |
| Scenario 3 (Salesforce Tabs + Visualforce Sites) | Enabled | Disabled | Users who are members of more than one site can see all users in all sites they’re members of when using Salesforce Tabs + Visualforce sites that have Site User Visibility enabled. This visibility is also true in API calls and searches on the site. Site members can’t see the user details of members who aren’t in the current site they’re viewing, nor can they see other site members belonging to the same account. |
| Scenario 3 (LWR and Aura Sites) | Enabled | Disabled | Experience Cloud site users can see all other Experience Cloud site users as long as they’re members of the same site, but they can’t see users belonging to the same account. Users who are members of more than one site can see all users in all sites they’re members of in API calls and searches on the site. Site members can’t see user details of members who aren’t in the current site they’re viewing. They also can’t see other site members belonging to the same account. |
| Scenario 4 (Salesforce Tabs + Visualforce Sites) | Enabled | Enabled | Users who are members of more than one site can see all users in all sites they’re members of when using Salesforce Tabs + Visualforce sites. This visibility is also true in API calls and searches on the site. Site users can’t see the user details of members who aren’t in the current site they’re viewing. They can see users who are part of the same account in the site they’re all members of. |
| Scenario 4 (LWR and Aura Sites) | Enabled | Enabled | Experience Cloud site users can see all other Experience Cloud site users as long as they’re members of the same site. Users who are members of more than one site can see all users in all sites they’re members of in API calls and searches on the site. They can also see users who are part of the same account in the site they’re all members of. |
