Create Walkthroughs

Connect multiple prompts for a hands-on interactive tour that onboards users or introduces features. Each prompt becomes a step in the walkthrough.

Required Editions

Available in: Lightning Experience
Available with a limted number of active walkthroughs in: Essentials, Group, Professional, Enterprise, Performance, Unlimited, and Developer Editions
Available with Enablement, which is available in Developer Edition with a limited number of add-ons and with Sales Cloud, Service Cloud, or Salesforce Platform in: Enterprise, Performance, Unlimited and Einstein 1 Sales EditionEditions for an additional cost
In-app guidance in Experience Cloud sites with Partner Enablement requires an Enablement add-on license and supported PRM add-on license.
User Permissions Needed
To add, edit, and manage in-app guidance in Lightning Experience as an admin:

Modify All Data OR Customize Application

AND

Access to objects or apps related to specific prompts

To add, edit, and manage in-app guidance in Lightning Experience as a user who isn’t an admin:

Design and Deliver In-App Guidance

AND

View All Profiles, View Roles and Role Hierarchy, View Setup and Configuration, and access to objects or apps related to specific prompts

To add, edit, and manage in-app guidance in Experience Cloud sites as an admin:

Modify All Data OR Customize Application

AND

Other profile, role, and site permissions. See Permissions for Creating and Accessing In-App Guidance

  1. From Setup, in the Quick Find box, enter In-App Guidance, and then select In-App Guidance.
  2. Click Add.
    In-App Guidance Builder opens in a new browser tab.
  3. From the Environment dropdown, select where you want to create the prompt.
    • For Lightning Experience, select Your Org (Lightning Experience).
    • For an Experience Cloud site, select Site Name (Experience Cloud Site).
  4. In the environment you selected, go to the app or page where you want to add the walkthrough, and then click Add. ==
    The New In-App Guidance panel opens in the In-App Guidance Builder.
  5. In the New In-App Guidance panel, select Walkthrough.
    Warning
    Warning Walkthroughs don’t appear correctly on record pages that use split view. Close split view before you add the first step in the walkthrough. For users taking the walkthrough, the first step can instruct them to close the split view before they continue.
  6. For the first step in the walkthrough, select the prompt type, location, and position. For a prompt in Lightning Experience, select a custom theme color. Click Next.
  7. Enter a prompt title and body text. For a floating or targeted prompt, enter a label for the Dismiss button. Add optional images. For a docked prompt, enter text for the extra header and optionally embed a video.
  8. To add a step in the walkthrough, click Add Step in the In-App Guidance Builder header.
    When you add a step that switches between Setup and other apps in Lightning Experience, you’re prompted to save if the step goes to an app with a different domain. The page refreshes and you can resume creating the walkthrough in the new domain.
  9. To reorder or delete steps, use the Walkthrough Steps panel in the In-App Guidance Builder.
  10. Save your changes.
  11. In the In-App Guidance Settings window, specify other options for the walkthrough. Add an optional action link for the last step, schedule when the walkthrough is visible, restrict access to specific profiles or permissions, and copy the walkthrough’s URL. On the Details step, enter a name and API name, and save your changes.
  12. In In-App Guidance Builder, click Done.
