          Team Management in Salesforce Spiff

Teams are an important component of commission plans. Sometimes team members receive commissions based on the entire team's performance, and managers receive commissions based on a team's performance, or even multiple teams. You can assign members to a team for a limited period by defining the start and end dates for the assignment. Teams can also be assigned team leads who can view the team members’ statements. When creating a variable for multiple plans, you can use custom fields in numerous plans and customize the value uniquely for each team.

          Required Editions

Available in: Enterprise, Unlimited, and Developer Editions
Available for an additional cost in: Professional Edition with Web Services API Enabled

          Effective Dates

When adding users to a team, you can define an Effective As Of or Effective Until date for each team member.

Effective As Of or Effective Until date for each team member.

As best practice, use these dates for team management. We suggest you assign a date for each team member as soon as possible. These dates can be helpful when it comes to rollup scenarios and visibility for team leads.

Use the Effective Until date if a team member moves to another team or leaves the org. You may have a situation where a rep leaves a team and an effective until date is entered but the user then rejoins the team. You can always add a rep to a team multiple times. The Effective As Of date represents when they rejoined the team.

          Team Leads

For each team you create, you’re given the option to assign one or more team leads. Assigning a user to a team lead role grants that user visibility (or access) to the team members' statements.

          Team lead.

In this scenario, Natalia Tupusheva was assigned as team lead for the AE-EMEA team. When Natalia logs in, she not only sees her statement, but she also sees statements for Chloe, Elise, Jonas, and Mohammed, who are members of the AE-EMEA team. Maintaining effective dating is important because if a team member leaves, you don’t want the team lead to continue accessing that team member's statement. The team lead can access the statement until the Effective Until date as defined in the team table.

          Team statement.

When they click the statement card, ‌team leads can’t recalculate, manually adjust, overwrite, or freeze a statement. They can only see metric cards, export statements, comment on an obligation, open a ticket or trace calculations.

You can have more than one team lead assigned to a team. The team leads don’t have access to each other's statements unless that team lead is assigned as a team member. By default, lead leads can see statements for all team members and subteam members for all current and future plans. There can be situations where you want to determine which plans the team leads can access when viewing their team members' statements. For example, one or more team members are assigned to more than one plan, but the team lead should only have permission to see the details of one of those plans. To update these settings, click the team lead's card.

If partial access is selected, you’re prompted to choose the plans the lead has access to. New plans aren’t automatically added to their access permissions. If no plan is selected, the team lead has access only to their statement, meaning they can’t view the statements of their team members. It's important to note that this is only relevant to the team members who are active on their team. For example, if Enterprise AE Plan is selected, this doesn’t mean that the team lead can see the commission statements for every user assigned to the Enterprise AE Plan. For example, if two users were on the lead's team and one was assigned to the Enterprise AE Plan and the other was assigned to the Corporate AE Plan, the team lead would only be able to see the commission statement for the team member assigned to the Enterprise AE Plan.

          Custom Fields

If team custom fields are used in your plans, you can find them by clicking a team card and then navigating to the Custom Fields tab. These variables can be used and referenced in Designer.

          Custom fields.

Rather than creating a variable for multiple plans, you can reference the same variable in multiple plans and customize the value uniquely for each team through what is entered here. The AE-EMEA team can have a $1,500 team bonus, while the Enterprise AE team has a $2,000 team bonus, but both plans reference the same TeamBonus variable.
