Configure Search Settings to Optimize Your Search Results
To improve search results, make your Harmonized Data Model Objects (HDMOs) and Harmonized Unstructured Data Model Objects (HUDMOs) searchable. Then, customize the search query settings to define which fields and content from your data sources are relevant to your knowledge base and search results.

Step 1: Make your harmonized DMOs and UDMOs searchable and add fields from the search index to show in the search results.
- From Setup, in the Quick Find box, find and select Query Configurations.
- Select Configure Search Metadata.
- In the Objects section, in the Quick Find box, find and select your harmonized DMO and UDMO object.
- Turn on the Searchable toggle.
-
In the Search Index Fields tab, select the fields, such as Title, Summary, Content Type,
and Last Modified Date for display and filtering.
Note For unstructured content, your selections do not affect the search behavior because the entire content of the file will always be searchable. - In the Search Result Fields tab, select the fields that you want to appear in the search results.
-
To customize how your search results appear, click Customize in
the Customizable Layout for Keywords section.
- In the Search Builder Layout, select the object, click Add to add additional fields to the search layout and save the changes.
- Save your changes.
After you save this configuration, the system starts creating a search index and the related chunks for the harmonized DMO and UDMO in Data 360. This process may take some time. After it's complete, your DMO and UDMO object becomes searchable and ready for use in the query configuration. You can edit this configuration anytime, which will automatically recreate the search index.
Step 2: Set Up Custom Search Query Configuration
- From Setup, in the Quick Find box, enter Search Manager, and then select Query Configurations.
- Select Manage Custom Configurations.
- On the Manage Custom Configurations page, click New.
-
On the New Search Query Configuration page, enter a name, select Lightning
Knowledge Component search channel, and then click Save and
Continue.
Note Custom Experiences search channel is no longer supported. We recommend updating your existing Custom Experience configuration to use the Lightning Knowledge Component search channel. - From the Available Objects column, select Knowledge and HDMOs and HUDMOs that you want to make searchable and click the right arrow to move them to the Selected Objects pane. To get optimal search results in the Enterprise Knowledge component, select knowledge related objects only. Selecting other objects may lead to incomplete or irrelevant search results.
- Save your changes.
You can use this search query configuration in the Enterprise Knowledge component on the Lightning Record page for optimal search results.
