          Considerations for Intelligent Degree Planning

          Considerations for Intelligent Degree Planning

Get familiar with how Intelligent Degree Planner pulls and shows data from your org.

          Editions Needed
          Available in: Lightning Experience
Available in: Enterprise, Performance, Unlimited, and Developer Editions with Education Cloud

As you model your Academic Operations data, consider the implications for Intelligent Degree Planning.

Active and Inactive Terms and Sessions

After a learner selects a year, the pathway planner offers all terms and sessions that are shared with the learner and available for the chosen year. The planner includes active and inactive terms and sessions so that you can deactivate terms and sessions without affecting degree planning. To offer only active terms and sessions, use sharing rules.

          Term and Session Naming

After a learner selects a year, term, and session, the degree planner combines the term and session names into the format AcademicTerm.Name + AcademicSession.Name. For example, a term named “2024 Fall” and a session named “Session 1” appear as “2024 Fall Session 1”. To avoid repetitive or confusing titles in the degree planner, don’t include year or term names in session names.

          Picklist Values for Participation Status

Review the picklist values for the Participation Status field on the Course Offering Participant object. The Participation Status field is a dynamic picklist, which means that you create the values. See Review Picklist Values for Education Cloud Fields.

          Requirements Panel

The requirements panel shows requirements when the learner is associated with a learner program that includes learner program requirements.

          Requirement Placeholders

Requirement placeholders are made available according to the Elective Courses node in the learning program plan.

          Sharing Rights

Sharing rights for staff and learners affect these pathway objects.

          • Learner Pathway
          • Academic Year
          • Academic Term
          • Academic Session
          • Course Offering
          • Course Offering Participant
          • Course Offering Participant Result
          • Learning Pathway Template
          • Learning
          • Learner Program

          Data Required

Intelligent Degree Planning requires this data.

          • Learning, Learning Program, and Learning Course
          • Learning Outcome, Learning Outcome Item, and Learning Achievement
          • Learning Foundation Item (represents prerequisites and corequisites)
          • Learning Program Plan and Learning Program Plan Requirement
          • Learner Program and Learner Program Plan Requirement
          • Academic Year, Term, and Session
          • Products

All data is saved in a learner pathway, and the courses within the pathway are saved as learner pathway items. Use the Learning Wizard to create courses and programs, and the Program Plan Builder to create program plans. Both are available in the Academic Operations app. This way, year or term data is created for you. Records that you configured in setup, such as achievements, outcome items, and foundations, are created automatically.
