Manage Recurring Gift Commitments in Nonprofit

You can change the gift amount, schedule, and payment instrument details of a gift commitment. When you update the gift commitment record, Fundraising automatically processes the commitment and its associated records, such as the transaction and schedule.

When making schedule changes to a recurring gift commitment, if the effective dates of the updated schedule match the schedule start and end dates, the update is effective for the entire schedule. Otherwise, the schedule is split in this way:

          • The end date of the original schedule is changed to a day before the effective start date.
          • A schedule is created, and the start and end dates become the effective to and from dates.
          • If the effective end date is earlier than the original end date, another schedule is created. The new schedule's start date is a day later than the effective end date, and the original end date doesn’t change.
          Note
Note To change a gift commitment, you must have delete permission for the associated gift transaction records.

When you change a gift commitment, a record of the change is added to the Gift Commitment Change Attribution Log. This section, on the Related tab of the Gift Commitment or Account page, contains the details of the change. The Change Per Day Amount field in the log represents the amount of the upgrade or downgrade, broken down per day of the schedule. The campaign and outreach source code for the change are also captured in the log.

If the gift commitment upgrade is intended for an additional campaign, the Gift Default Designations automatically attributes the commitment (and the transactions) to multiple campaigns in the ratio that they influenced the gift amount. This attribution provides immense value when you determine the donor lifetime value and analyze the ROI calculation for each of the campaigns.
