Customize Opportunity Name Format

Create your own automation to customize the name format for manually created Opportunities.

The Single Gift Entry form names Opportunities after the Contacts associated with them. For example, if a gift comes from Selina Rodriguez, it's named the Selina Rodriguez Donation. Out of the box, however, this automation doesn't happen when you create a gift Opportunity outside of Single Gift Entry. You can create your own automation to customize the name format used for manually created Opportunities.

1. Go to the NPSP Settings tab.

   

   Note If you don't see the NPSP Settings tab in your org, you can find it in the App Launcher.

2. Click Donations, then click Opportunity Names.

3. Click New Opportunity Name.

4. Specify details such as which types of Opportunities to name using these settings, as well as the actual name format. For more information, see Customize Opportunity (Donation) Names.

5. Click Save.

Set Up Opportunity Stages

Consider the Opportunity stages for your org's gift processing solution.

GEM and NPSP install a number of Opportunity stages (including Pledged, Posted, Declined, Closed Won). You may want to add new stages that your institution uses in your gift processing solution, such as "Prospecting" or "Under Review."

For information about creating Opportunity stages or disabling stages you don't need, see Understand and Customize Sales Process and Path on Trailhead. When you create a Stage, verify that it's been added to the NPSP_Default Sales Process (in Setup, search for then select Sales Processes).

Customize Automatic Updates to Opportunity Stage

Configure the stage an Opportunity is automatically updated to when all payments are complete.

When all Payments on an Opportunity are paid, GEM automatically changes the Opportunity's Stage to Closed Won, reducing the need for manual updates. You can configure the default Stage in NPSP Settings.

1. Go to the NPSP Settings tab.

   

   Note If you don't see the NPSP Settings tab in your org, you can find it in the App Launcher.

2. Click Donations, then click Payments.

3. Click Edit.

4. Under Opportunity Stage for When Fully Paid, select the desired Stage.

5. Click Save.
