Understand Object Groups
This article explains Object Groups, a key component of Advanced Mapping, which is the logic used to process Gift Entry, Elevate, and imported data.
An Object Group is a container for a collection of Field Mappings. In addition to holding Field Mappings, Object Groups tell the NPSP Data Importer tool what types of records (e.g. Accounts, Contacts, Opportunities, etc.) to create or update. The object type is specified in the Object Name field:
Object Groups also tell the NPSP Data Importer tool how to relate records to each other. For example, GAU Allocation 1 and GAU Allocation 2 are both a child of the Opportunity Object Group:
These Object Groups allow you to include data for an Opportunity, along with data for two different GAU Allocations for that Opportunity, all in the same row of your import spreadsheet.
Advanced Mapping comes with several Object Groups already configured. If you have a previously unmapped custom object with fields you want to include in your data import or Gift Entry form, create a new Object Group then complete some additional customizations.
