Back Up Data for Recovery

Create a backup plan to quickly recover and restore your business data.

Similar to availability, data integrity and protection is a shared responsibility between Salesforce and you. Salesforce securely hosts encrypted data across multiple data centers and upholds a comprehensive list of compliance certifications to meet regulatory and contractual requirements.

Salesforce ensures that your data is safe, but Salesforce data isn’t always safe from business-level user error or integration downtime. While backups of your data are created to prepare for infrastructure-level disaster recovery, we’re unable to restore business-level data outside of this type of event. In the event of user error or data loss, create a backup plan to quickly recover and restore your business data.

You have several data backup options depending on your company’s needs and requirements.

  • Data Export service—Schedule or manually generate a backup of your org’s data into comma-separated values (CSV) files.
  • Export a Report—Manually generate a backup of your org’s data from Salesforce Reports.
  • Data Loader—Manually generate a backup of up to 5,000,000 records into a CSV file.
  • Bulk API—Create a custom backup to quickly extract and restore large data volumes.
  • Backup and Restore—Restore your org’s data from an automatic backup within Salesforce.
  • AppExchange—Choose from several third-party apps and solutions that backup and restore your org’s data.
Tip
Tip Along with your business data, consider backing up your metadata, such as custom fields, layouts, Reports, and Apex code. See Back Up Metadata to Protect and Restore Your Customizations in Salesforce Help.
