Incident Plans and Recovery Exercises
Be prepared for incidents that can impact your org’s availability by developing a business continuity plan and performing recovery exercises.
Document Incident Plans
As part of business continuity planning, identify business-critical priorities and what actions your IT operations team can do to minimize business impact and quickly recover availability during an incident. Clearly define the roles and responsibilities your team can perform to triage and make decisions toward continuity, recovery, and resolution. Make sure to document and share your plans with appropriate team members.
Practice Recovery Exercises
Practice makes (nearly) perfect, and the last place you want to find holes in your business continuity plan is when someone makes an error or your org is unavailable. Perform regular recovery exercises with your IT operations team to familiarize them with and normalize your business continuity and recovery plans. These exercises also give your team opportunities to identify areas of improvement and you opportunities to make adjustments.
