          Restore Files with Salesforce Backup

Restore a deleted or modified file from a backup. When an older or shared file has multiple versions, you can use filters to identify and restore a specific version of a file quickly. A file is restored on all of the records that it’s related to.

          Required Editions

          User Permissions Needed
To restore records on all objects: Read, Create, and Edit on each object
To restore only existing records on objects: Edit on each object
To restore only deleted records on object: Create on each object
          To restore files:

          Manage Users

          AND

          View Setup and Configuration

A file’s data is stored across multiple objects. These objects contain not only the content of your file, but metadata such as version information, sharing rules and access, and information about which library the file is saved in. Salesforce Backup supports these file-related objects:

          • Attachment
          • ContentAsset
          • ContentDistribution
          • ContentDistributionView
          • ContentDocument
          • ContentDocumentLink
          • ContentFolder
          • ContentVersion
          • ContentWorkspace
          • ContentWorkspaceDoc
          • ContentWorkspaceMember
          • ContentWorkspacePermission

After you start a restore job, the integration user handles all file management tasks involved in the restore process. Make sure that the integration user has the correct object-level permissions for these objects. In addition to object-level permissions, the integration users must meet all special access rules for each of these objects. For example, some objects are available only in specific products, when features within those products are enabled, or with product-specific permission sets. Review the Special Access Rules section of the object’s reference documentation page for all required licenses, permissions, and preferences.

          1. From the Restore & Export tab, in the Data Category field, select Restore Files.
          2. Set your filters.
You can narrow your restore job to files by change type, a date range specifying when files were modified or backed up, and who last modified a file.
          3. Click Show Backups.
A list of all files that meet your criteria appears.
          4. Select the files that you want to back up. If multiple versions of a file are present, distinguish between versions by reviewing the file details. For example, inspect who last modified the file, the file’s backup date, and file size.
          5. Click Next.
The page refreshes and shows the list of files that you selected.
          6. Optionally, to restore all files to the latest version, in the Bulk Actions menu, select Select Latest Version.
          7. Optionally, restore all records related to your selected files. By default, related records aren’t restored.
          8. To select the version of a single file, click the file name.
          9. In the Version field, select the version that you want to restore.
A preview of the selected file version appears. To inspect your file in closer detail, click the preview pane.
          10. Review the list of records related to your selected file version.
When you restore a file, it’s restored to all of its related records.
          11. When you confirm that you have the file version that you want, click Add File.
          12. Continue selecting and confirming versions for all of your selected files.
          13. When you’re finished, click Restore and confirm your decision.
Salesforce sends you an email when the process finishes.

A file is restored to the library that the integration user has access to, not the personal library of the user who initiates the restore job. To restore a file to a specific library, export it from a backup. Then import the file to your personal library or to another library of your choice.
