Supported Download Types in Mobile Publisher for Experience Cloud

Give your app users the ability to download and save files to their personal devices. Mobile Publisher apps support several types of downloads.

These download types are available.

  • Specific-object downloads. You can create downloads from these objects: Attachment, ContentDocument, ContentVersion, Document, and KnowledgeArticleVersion. Available for authenticated and guest users on iOS and Android apps.
  • Chat-transcript downloads from Messaging for In-App and Web via a Binary Large Object (BLOB). Available for authenticated iOS users only.
  • Third-party downloads, such as links from Google Drive or Box.com. Available for authenticated and guest users on iOS and Android apps.
  • Dynamically generated download links.

You can specify whether a download link requires user authentication. If a download link allows unauthenticated downloads, a user can download the file without logging in to your Mobile Publisher app.

If you have any other document storage or dynamically generated content, Mobile Publisher recommends storing the document in one of the supported objects and providing the user a link to that object.

Note
Note iOS devices support the ability to preview files before downloading them, but Android devices don’t have this functionality by default. On Mobile Publisher for Experience Cloud Android apps, you can preview a file only in the notification that the file download is complete.

Also, downloaded files on Android devices don’t save to the system’s downloads folder by default. To add a downloaded file to the system’s downloads folder, an app user must move the file to the system folder.
