Important Salesforce has replaced the individual import wizards for accounts,
contacts, and other objects with the Data Import Wizard. Individual import wizards open
in small windows, while the Data Import Wizard opens in a full browser with
dataimporter.app at the end of the URL. From Setup, enter Data Import
Wizard in the Quick Find box, then select
Data Import Wizard. The options you see depend on your
permissions.
To understand how person account records are matched to prevent duplicates, see What Is Imported for Person Accounts?. If your administrator renamed “person account” to another term, the Data Import Wizard refers to the new name.
-
To import your person accounts, from your personal settings, enter
Import, then select Data Import
Wizard.
Alternatively, click Import Person Accounts in the Tools area of the accounts home page.
- For best results, perform all the steps listed on the introductory page.
- To begin your import, click Start the Import Wizard
- Select the Person Accounts object.
- Select the record type that you want to assign to the records in your import file.
- Select the field that you are using to match existing records in Salesforce with records in your import file. If your records don’t have external IDs, the External ID option is disabled.
- If you are inserting new records and updating existing records at the same time, choose whether to override the record types of existing records.
- Complete the other settings depending on the setup of your org, such as whether workflow rules are triggered and contacts are added to campaigns.
- Upload your import file. To provide the location of your import file, click Browse.
- Select the character encoding of your import file. You can usually accept the default value.
- Click Next.
-
Map the fields in your import file to the appropriate Salesforce fields by
matching the fields on the right, which include all the columns in your import
file, with the appropriate Salesforce field on the left. If the column labels in
your import file exactly match field labels in Salesforce, the wizard maps those
fields for you. However, if two or more of your file’s column labels match a
field in Salesforce, map the fields manually.
Some Salesforce fields cannot be updated using import, for example, Created Date and Last Modified Date. So even if you use an exported report as your import file, some Salesforce fields in your file cannot be mapped.
- Click Next. The import wizard warns you if you have not mapped all the fields in your import file. Unmapped field values are not imported.
- Read any warning messages that the import wizard displays. To return to earlier steps and resolve potential problems, select Previous.
- To submit your import request, click Start Import.
- A message informs you that the import has started. When the import operation is finished, you receive an email from Customer Support.
- To exit the wizard, click Finish.
- To view the status of your recent import jobs, from Setup, enter Data Import Wizard, then select Data Import Wizard.
