Points Accounting with Traceability and Currency Subtypes

To manage liability for redeemable points across partners and promotions, automatically link redemption transactions to source accrual transactions by using traceability. After you turn on traceability, use subtypes to define how different types of points are accrued and redeemed, and the order in which they’re redeemed. Track the link between redemption transactions and source accrual transactions by using Traceability Loyalty Ledger records.

Use Case

The Cloud Kicks Inner Circle loyalty program uses the Member Points redeemable currency, which members accrue for purchases and specific activities. Cloud Kicks now wants to use traceability to manage liability across partners and to control promotional liability. In addition, they also want to set constraints on which points are redeemed for specific activities, and have different expiration periods based on the activity type.

To meet these requirements, the loyalty program manager creates three currency subtypes with different liabilities.

  • Reward Points
  • Promotion Points
  • Partner Points

Then, they configure rules for credit and debit actions.

  • Configure credit rules to credit only Partner Points for partners activities.
  • Configure debit rules to prioritize the consumption of Partner Points, followed by Promotion Points, and finally Reward Points, irrespective of their accrual dates.
  • Configure debit rules to set constraints on the point types that are redeemed for certain transactions. For example, redeem only Bonus Points when purchasing apparel.
  1. Set Up Traceability
    To link redemption transactions directly to source accrual transactions, turn on traceability for redeemable currencies. Set up Data Processing Engine definitions and invocable actions to process trace records and expire points.

    After you enable and configure traceability, use Traceability Loyalty Ledger records to view the link from every point redemption to its accrual source.

    Define rules for crediting or debiting members' balances with currency subtypes, and track the associations for debit, credits, cancellations, and transfers.
