Field History Tracking
To maintain an audit trail of who changed what and when, use Field History Tracking. Select the standard and custom object fields to track.

User Field History Tracking is a pilot or beta service that is subject to the Beta Services Terms at Agreements - Salesforce.com or a written Unified Pilot Agreement if executed by Customer, and applicable terms in the Product Terms Directory. Use of this pilot or beta service is at the Customer's sole discretion.

- Field History Tracking Overview
Select certain fields to track and show field history in an object history list. When Field Audit Trail is turned off, Salesforce retains field history data for up to 18 months, and up to 24 months via the API. If Field Audit Trail is turned on, Salesforce retains field history data until you manually delete it. The retention values serve as reminders and field history data can be deleted at any time. Field history tracking data does not count against storage limits. - Track Object Field History
Turn on field history tracking for standard or custom objects in the field history tracking settings. Changes made to a field are added to the History related list of an object. You can monitor changes to business critical fields, or audit text fields for values that might require extra security, privacy, or access controls. - Enable Access to History Objects for a Profile
To view the history of changes related to an object (for example, to view the history of an account or a case), include the history list field in the object’s page layout, enable field-history tracking for the object, and define object-level and field-level permissions on profiles associated with your users. - Field History Tracking Examples
