Build Custom Reports Using Standard Consumption Tags
Beyond the predefined reports, the underlying tagged data in Data 360 provides more tailored insights through the TenantEnrichedUsageEvent data lake object (DLO). You can create your own custom reports and dashboards based on your unique business needs.
Use Case 1: Build a Report Based on a Provided Data 360 Report
Required permissions:
- Data Cloud Architect permission set
- Create and Customize Reports or Report Builder (Lightning Experience)
The easiest way to build a custom report using our consumption tagging framework is to base it on one of the provided Digital Wallet reports. After you modify it, you save it as your own custom report. To ensure that you know which reports you and your team created, save them using a unique name in a separate folder.
We don't recommend directly modifying the out-of-the-box reports. This way, when we update any of the provided reports, you receive the updated reports, and your changes remain independent from ours. If you directly modify a report, we skip updating that report in future releases.
Use Case 2: Build Your Own Viz Based on a Provided Tableau Next Visualization
Required permissions:
- Tableau Next Creator license
- Tableau Next Admin or Tableau Next Platform Analyst permission set
- Data Cloud Architect permission set
You can’t modify the provided Consumption Analytics dashboard visualizations. Therefore, if you want to build a custom report based on a viz, clone the visualization.
From the App Launcher, find and select Tableau Next. Go to the Digital Wallet Consumption Analytics workspace. From the Assets list, click to open the visualization you want to clone. From the More Actions dropdown menu, select Clone. Make your modifications and save the visualization.
Use Case 3: Build a Report from Scratch from the TenantEnrichedUsageEvent DLO
The TenantEnrichedUsageEvent DLO is designed to provide direct access to consumption tags from which you can build custom dashboards and reports that offer deeper insights into consumption patterns. When you build custom reports and dashboards directly from the TenantEnrichedUsageEvent DLO, including any underlying queries, you don't incur any costs. That is, you don’t consume Data 360 service credits. It's important to understand that only the TenantEnrichedUsageEvent DLO can be used to build Data 360 or Tableau Next reports/ visualizations, and dashboards. For now, other DLOs aren't supported.
See TenantEnrichedUsageEvent Data Lake Object Fields Reference for a description of all fields in this DLO. Fields are organized into categories (recommended, optional, and internal use only) so you can determine which fields to use to provide meaningful data.
Use Case 4: Build a Custom Report for a Specific Data Space
The Additional Info field in the Consumption Insights Extended Semantic Model contains data about in which data space a billable event occurred. To create a report that filters billable events by data space, create a calculated field for Additional Info. Then build a Data 360 report or Tableau Next visualization that uses the newly created calculated field. After you build the report, you can see usage for future billable events by data space.
Before you begin, install the Consumption Tagging app, which contains the semantic data model on which to build the reports.
See Salesforce Help: Example: Create a Report on Usage by Data Space Using Our DMO and Example: Create a Tableau Next Viz on Usage by Data Space for instructions.
Recommended Report Filters
Here are some recommendations for general report filters. See Access and View the Consumption Insights Dashboard for examples of how to use Resource Type or Root Resource Type to filter on specific features, agents, or sources that you want to see in your report.
| Filter | Purpose |
|---|---|
| Dataspace | The data space associated with the proper DLO, usually, the TenantEnrichedUsageEvent DLO. The purpose of this filter is to ensure that you have associated the DLO with a data space but isn't used for reporting consumption data for the data space. If you have multiple data spaces, the first one is listed based on alphabetical order. Click to select a different data space from the drop-down list. To create a report that filters consumption by data space, see Example: Create a Report on Usage by Data Space Using Our DMO and Example: Create a Tableau Next Viz on Usage by Data Space. |
| Entitlement Org ID | The 18-digit ID of the org that holds the entitlements from which the reported usage is drawn. |
| FeatureDeveloperName not equal to "" | If creating a report based on features, it excludes rows without data. |
| ResourceIdOrApiName not equal to "" | If creating a report for agents or agent actions, it excludes rows without data. |
| RootResourceIdOrApiName not equal to "" | If creating a report for agents or agent actions, it excludes rows without data. |
- Example: Create a Report on Usage by Data Space Using Our DMO
Build a Data 360 report that breaks down consumption by data space by using the Additional Info data space attribute. If you use multiple data spaces, you can create reports to see granular consumption data based on how you partitioned that data. Data is often partitioned by region, business unit, geography, or security requirements. This method shows you how to create a calculated field from the Consumption Insights Extended data model object (DMO). You don’t incur any costs to use this method. - Example: Create a Report on Usage by Data Space Using Our DLOs
Build a Data 360 report that breaks down consumption by data space by joining the TenantEnrichedUsageEvent and TenantUsageAttrDetail data lake objects (DLOs). - Example: Create a Tableau Next Viz on Usage by Data Space
Build a Tableau Next report that breaks down consumption by data space by using the Additional Info data space attribute. If you use multiple data spaces, you can create reports to see granular consumption data based on how you partitioned that data. Data is often partitioned by region, business unit, geography, or security requirements. - Example: Report On Usage by Feature With Digital Wallet
On this page you can find one example of how to use Data Cloud to create reports about the Einstein-powered features you use in Digital Wallet-enabled products. In this context, “features” are the predefined elements you can use or activities you can do with a consumption-based product. - Example: Query Digital Wallet Data in Tableau
To analyze and visualize Digital Wallet data in Tableau, you can link to Data Cloud with Tableau’s Data Cloud Connector and query directly from Digital Wallet’s Data Lake Objects (DLOs). Learn how on this page. - View Consumption Insights for a Data Cloud One Companion Org
By default, the predefined (out-of-the-box) Consumption Insights reports provide you with granular insights for consumption billed to your home org. To view reporting for consumption billed to a companion org, you simply save a copy of a relevant report and add a filter to narrow consumption details to just the companion org.
